Above: A new dZi bead from Taiwan. Displaying the sacred swastika decoration.

The Swastika is an ancient symbol and the sanskrit word (स्वस्तिक) means auspicious or well being. I have seen several ancient tabular dZi (see bead on right) that display swastika decorations, however, they are extremely rare.  Some of the earliest forms of the swastika come from the Indus Valley civilisation (3300–1300 BCE). In the Yungdrung Bön tradition of Tibet, the swastika is considered to be a symbol of indestructibility and represents the very essence of the wisdom of Bön. Indeed the name Yungdrung is the Tibetan word for swastika, which may have its roots in the ancient language of Zhang Zhung. It is also a sacred symbol in Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism.
